“It would not be quit true to say that “some of my best friends are hunters'” Joseph Wood Krutch states as be beings his passage. He begins with that statement, and then continues to say that many of his respected acquaintances are hunters. With this being the opening statement he is able to show the connection between himself and the hunters. With this said we are also able to determine the author’s ability to give his fair point of view. The Author touches on certain points throughout the essay on why hunters posse a different type of evil when compared to certain types of crimes which the public would also consider as evil or even greater. The author of the passage believes hunters contain an evil which can be far worst then certain types of crimes committed. The argument for this kind of subjective thinking is the Author simply saying and reiterating it more then once that there is no valid reason for taking away a life. He believes hunters kill for the sake of killing. He then compares hunters to other types of people who do evil acts, but he is able to justify those acts. “Liar lies to gain some end; the swindler and the thief want things which, if honestly got, might be good in themselves. Even the murderer is usually removing some impediment to normal desires”. The author then goes on to say “but the killer for sport seems to have no such excusable motive.” Then he continues on throughout the essay stressing guilt, shame, and his usability to determine the motives of hunters which commit these acts of evil. The author’s belief is that pure evil is represented by hunters because of the hunter’s ability to hunt and kill with out an excusable motive. However, in one sentence he touches on the issue of power, but does not really expand and does not give the reader enough to have an opposing argument.
