First, read the handout titled “Research Question.” Note the difference between a research TOPIC and a research QUESTION: a topic is a general area of interest, whereas a research question is a specific, focused, arguable question that guides your research. A research question should not have an obvious answer, but should force you to make an original claim. The thesis of your research essay should answer your research question. For your discussion post this week, please brainstorm 2-3 possible research questions that might emerge from your research topic. After sharing your questions, reflect on whether each question is specific, focused, and arguable. You may also wish to reflect on how your research question relates to other research within your field/discipline, and what sources you may need to find to answer each question.
